Employers want to know you’re someone who doesn’t get frustrated easily.
Soft skills are becoming more and more important when it comes to finding a new job.
Employers want to hire adaptable people who can respond calmly to challenging situations.
Six of these skills are vital on your resume, according to three talent experts.
Your resume is the first impression a company has of you. So it needs to look good.

There are certain things that are essential on your resume, like your experience and the companies that you’ve worked for.

Certain social skills are also important to include.

“Those that show a worker’s attitude and that are inherent to their character, describing their personality and way of being,” explained Rosario Sierra, director of corporate business at LinkedIn Spain and Portugal.

As the world changes around us, our systems, strategies, and methods of working are also constantly evolving.

“To be able to adapt to these changes and to always be able to be in such a competitive environment, we need professionals with these skills, who are flexible, able to learn, able to work in teams, etc.,” said Alberto Gavilán, Director of Talent at the Adecco Group.

Also known as soft skills, they matter a lot, because “they define a candidate or worker by how they relate to their work environment,” said Sierra.

In LinkedIn’s 2019 Global Talent Trends Report, soft skills were the key to hiring the perfect employee. 92% of recruiters said that soft skills are just as important or more important than hard skills in the hiring process.

“To give an example, an empathetic professional has an easier time putting themselves in the shoes of their co-workers and clients, and understanding their problems, needs, work or personal concerns. This in turn translates into a greater ability to have an impact on the team’s good atmosphere, the motivation of their department or results orientation”, said Nilton Navarro, Brand Manager at InfoJobs, about why soft skills are so attractive to companies and why you should include them in your application.

One option is to add them to the header of your resume.

“Another option is to put them after hard skills, grouping them in a table or accompanying them with some other resource that helps us make them stand out,” said Navarro.

Different jobs require different soft skills, but these three talent experts have devised a list of the most sought-after ones.

  1. Ability to learn
Continuing to learn new things is a vital skill in a rapidly changing world.

“All these changes that are happening in companies on an almost day-to-day basis require professionals to learn new things, adapting to have the most up-to-date knowledge possible,” the Adecco executive said.

  1. Adaptability
Making it clear on your resume that you’re able to confidently and easily tackle changes will impress recruiters.

Employers want to know you’re someone who doesn’t get frustrated easily.

Being adaptable also allows employees to “perform different tasks and activities within the company, so they’ll be more complete and useful in the workforce,” said Sierra.

  1. Problem-solving
In such a changing environment, all employees will face issues that they didn’t foresee.

“That ability to analyze the problem, look for solutions, and be inclined to find improvements is very important,” Gavilán said.

  1. Teamwork
Teamwork has always been an important skill in the workplace, but remote working has only added to this.

“Teams are increasingly geographically dispersed, they’re often multidisciplinary, so the ability to work as part of a team means that you integrate into a company or not depending on your ability to adapt to working with different people, who you may never see face to face,” said Gavilán.

This ability also implies other important skills like empathy, emotional intelligence, and collaboration.

“These are key to creating a healthy and friendly work environment so that talent can express itself and work in a relaxed way,” added Sierra.

This will make teams more productive and efficient.

  1. Creativity
This is something that distinguishes humans from robots in the workplace.

“Thinking out-of-the-box is one of the most important things for companies. If employees go beyond and aren’t limited to being mere executors, this will open the door to development and growth within the company,” said the LinkedIn executive.

  1. Proactivity
Showing a proactive attitude and being able to identify objectives and obstacles are qualities valued in a worker, whatever the role, according to Sierra.

That’s why putting this skill on your resume will make it stand out to a future employer.
